Browse our Datsun catalogue and request any part to be made for you.\u003c\/p\u003e","products":[{"product_id":"windshield-wiper-ball-joint-cap-1975-datsun-120y-b210","title":"Windshield Wiper Ball Joint Cap – 1975 Datsun 120y B210","description":"\u003cp\u003eThe wipers crapped out on me one rainy day and I found out the plastic cap that secures the ball joint was too loose to hold the linkage in place anymore.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCar is a Datsun 120Y (B210) 1975 but I have a feeling that these caps might fit other models and could very well fit other (japanese) makes also.   \u003cbr\u003eI saw a photo of a 240Z wiper assembly and the cap seemed identical but the photo did not show dimennsion so there might be a difference.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI have uploaded a new version!   \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis thing was made in one evening and as the images show there are some differences to the original.   \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRev002 contains a few changes to the previous file (which I took down):  \u003cbr\u003e-I have made the shell of the cap thinner to accomodate the ball better.  \u003cbr\u003e-The flange now has better cutouts  \u003cbr\u003e-The inside of the flange is filleted to accomodate the ball better  \u003cbr\u003e-I have NOT made the  cutouts to the tab to accomodate turning the cap on the metal wiper mechanism arm (because of a performance issue on my old donkey driven computer). The new photos (blue hued) show that I have filed  those cutouts by hand.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI had some issues when printing the top part of the cap since the new shell is thinner. playing with printer settings helped a little but did not make the problem fully go away.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe ball diameter of the wiper motor arm is 13mm and the inner diameter of  the lower flange of the cap has been redimensioned to 13 mm also. This works because when the cap is attached to the ball and twister to position the metal arm squeezes the flanges and they are tight.   \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI have now installed this new cap (PLA version) and we shall see how long it lasts.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis thing was printed in PLA as a prototype but I'm sure that ABS would be the better option due to durability in outdoor conditions.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis thing is no longer a work in progress since the piece fits and works for now. I printed mine in ABS but PETG should also be sufficient. If all you have is PLA go for it. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI printed mine with 100% infill and support material just touching the build plate. I did not use internal supports. Feel free to experiment ot see what works best for your printer and material. Using either a brim or rafting is also probably a good idea. The footprint of the part alone is not very big.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI have played around with the tab trying to get it to lay flush so it would not flex and possibly crack. This might change from car to car. Be careful when tightening the screw. Using a small thin rubber washer between the plastic tab and the car might help with any misalignment. I don't know how I'd get them out, the clips would probably break when you`d pry them, but then, you can print more!\u003cbr\u003eI've printed them face down, and they print good, even the little clips' overhang.  The only issue is that there is a step on the top part, where the middle is higher than the surroundings;  that prints badly because it's trying to print a 3mm horizontal overhang.  It looks weird when you look at it from close by, but from a foot or two away it just looks like texture in the plastic which in the end is pretty ok!
