Truck Hood Ornament Base – 1981-2010 Dodge Ram

Bcjams was kind enough to post a very nice ram head for the hood of a truck. Here is a possible base you can use.

Please note:

I would NOT use PLA. It'll warp, shrink and won't last long in use.

I drew this from an image on the internet. While it works very well on my truck it most certainly not a copy of the Mopar part. There are at least five different ornament bases. This is only ONE possibility that fits the Bcjams head.

So what I did was made the model for a flat head M8 screw to work with the printed threads in Bcjams' head. A 5/16-18 thread is very close to M8 and works equally as well in plastic. I actually used a hardware store 5/16-18 hex head screw.

Now for mounting:
I did not want to drill holes or emblem tape to my hood (though emblem tape is the way to go) so this base accepts two round neodymium magnets maximum of 18mm diameter and 4mm thick. You RTV the magnets in place, then glue thin silicone sheet, rubber sheet, gasket material if it's soft enough, duct tape, or I used electrical tape to the bottom of the base. The tape is a soft surface to not mar your paint, the magnets clamp it to your hood.

Works ok. I suppose at 120mph it'll come off, but otherwise seems to be ok. Let me know if y'all have another idea.
